Where are databases stored?

Postby Vondur » Mon May 26, 2008 10:36 am

If I have postgreSQL on "C:" and PT3 on "D:", where will my database be stored?

Thanks

On C:, under the postgres installation folder.

Hi WhiteRider
I registered my copy of PT3 yesterday. Prior to registering, I was working with the single db that was defaulted to the trial version. After registering, I went into db management and only the default db was there. I did import all my HH's into this db before registration, but I have all my trny info up to date in the previous db. I was hoping to continue with the old db. Is this possible? I read your FAQ's on the matter. You seem to have your old db already present before you created the new one.

PS. It was actually Prajna's faq on creating a new db... can you still help with this?

Edit: I re-read Prajna's article and it seems pretty clear that I will have to work with the default db and re-enter trny info from PS. Not a big deal... I suck at trny's anyways.

You can only access the previous DB to Export from it.
You must click New, but then choose the option that says the DB already exists and browse to it. You can then export, which I *think* should include the summaries..

What are they called or what extensions do they have? I've looked both in my PT3 directory and postgresSQL directories and can't find any database files. Although I use Vista and it seems to sometimes change the file extension names.

I think the default windows path to the database is something like C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\main\pgdata\ and all of the data is in that directory. There are several subdirectories, and quite a few files, I don't know what they all mean; I'm sure the details can be found somewhere on the PostgreSQL website.

They are not stored as single files - postgres manages lots of randomly named files for each DB.
