problem running pt on mac lion

Postby J00nas69 » Tue Oct 11, 2011 10:59 am

Hi
I once tried to install pt to my new macbook air with lion, but i think i messed up things and configurations badly. I think so because now when i try to install it again according to this post: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=35894, it says "-append invalid path" when i try to paste the first command. The other two commands doesnt give error.

Anyway, i get pt installer to install postgresql for me but when i run pttracker is says cannot connect to database - check your configurations?

And ive heard that you should have user named postgresql on your mac and log on that to run pokertracker? well i dont have..

Ive tried uninstalling everything and deleting folders, but i think the problem is around "sudo dscl . -append /Users/_postgres RecordName postgres" command, because it gives me error..

Is this a new clean Lion install or an upgrade from Snow Leopard?

That's odd - your error is reporting that the _postgres user (which should be there by default on Lion) doesn't exist.

Regardless we can work around this - run these commands and then the installer should work:

sudo dscl . -create /Users/postgres
sudo dscl . -create /Users/postgres UserShell /bin/bash
sudo dscl . -append /Groups/daemon GroupMembership postgres

I think that user still doesnt exist after those commands because this command "sudo dscl . -append /Users/_postgres RecordName postgres" still gives errormessage:
"append: Invalid Path
<dscl_cmd> DS Error: -14009 (eDSUnknownNodeName)".

I havnt tried to reinstall pt yet, but should i try it even i get that error message?

You don't need to run the append after running those other commands you should be able to just run the installer now.

Yes, that's probably easiest - you can find it from here. You'll want 8.4 at this point.

Got postgresql 8.4 now installed, but pokertracker is still unable to connect to database. The reason might be that at the end of postgresql installation this error happened: "problem running post-install step. The database cluster initialisation failed."

okay got pokertracker finally working by doing this:

"The easiest way to get Postgresql worked refformating of HD and clean install of OS Lion as follows:

1. Delete the postgres user that is already on the system (sudo dscl . delete /Users/postgres)
2. Delete the group also (sudo dscl . delete /Groups/postgres)
3. Make postgres user yourself through System preferences -> Users & Groups
4. Install normally with the installer
5. Have fun."
