PT3 Freezes on the splash screen

Postby Cambion2 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 8:54 pm

Hi there,

I've been using PT3 for a week or so and everything has been fine until today:

Upon running PT3 it displays the splash screen but goes no further. I see no CPU activity associated with it. Rebooting has not solved this. I'm using version 3.00 build 2, build date 16th May.

I had a quick search of the forums but I haven't seen anything matching this (though that may be my ineptness..).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. (I do have all the hand files so I could get it to reimport them if I _have_ to but I'd rather not as I would have to re-enter a lot of full tilt summaries (from before they started doing them automatically.)

Cheers,

Greg

So it freezes at the splash screen every time?
Open Task Manager / Processes before you try to run it, and check that there are no pokertracker.exe processes - if there are, end them.
When you try it again, if it doesn't work, is there a new file called "c:\Program Files\PokerTracker 3\PokerTracker.log"?
If so, attach that to our Support system , and link to this thread.

Hi again,

Yes it freezes at the splash screen every time. There were no Pokertracker.exe processes before I tried to run the executable and 2 after. (One taking up 3MB and not having done any IO and one taking up 16MB with 1MB of I/O performed. Neither seem to do anything after that.)

I looked for "F:\Program Files\PokerTracker 3\PokerTracker.log" (my HDD is F for dual boot reasons) but there is not one there. I searched for any logs in the PokerTracker directory and the only ones it finds are some import logs.

Should I still go to the support section linked without a log file?

There are 4 postgres.exe's found in the processes part of task manager (each with a memory usage of about 3MB and 3 with an I/O usage of 30MB, one with 50MB). I tried stopping them with the 'stop service' link in the postgres 8.2 links and restarting it before running PT3. Same problem.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your time,

Greg

AS far as I know - I didn't see any error messages flash up and the processes seem present. Perhaps it is my PT database being corrupt or something?

if you're running the windows o/s, check in the services.msc snap-in to look at the state of the postmaster - post back the startup command line from that service start properties.

"F:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\bin\pg_ctl.exe" runservice -w -N "pgsql-8.2" -D "F:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\data\"

where is your o/s installed? f:\ drive?

is the postgres service running?

as a precaution, back up your db like this for now:

pg_dumpall -U postgres > f:\pgbackup

execute this by a dos command prompt from this folder: C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\bin

Yeah - for some reason when I started dual booting with Linux my windows drive became F.

Yes, the status is started.

my postgreSQL is 8.2 - dunno if that matters...

I've made a backup like you said (after I realised that it simply wanted my password 4 times rather than I was giving it the wrong one...)

What's the next step?

Thanks,

Greg
