Unable to Connect to Database

Postby str82the8 » Fri Aug 15, 2008 9:46 am

This has never happened before. I opened PT and i got the following database error:

Unable to connect to database. 101 - SQLSTATE=08001 server closed connection unexpectedly.

Also, when i try to check ring game stats I get:

DataWindow Error
Database transaction information not available.
Call SetTrans or SetTransObject function.

I don't know what the problem is. I was just using PT with no problems and I shut down normally.

It means the PostgreSQL service isn't running. Restart the computer and try it again.

When did you backup the database last?
Go to the c:\program files\postgresql\8.2\data folder. Is there a file called postmaster.pid there? If so, delete it and restart the computer and try it again. If it still fails, go to the Start menu and select Settings > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services - find PostgreSQL in the list. Is it started? If not, try to start it. Does it give an error?

I haven't tried what you recomended yet, but now i got this NEW database error.

101-SQLSTATE=08001
could not connect to server. Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061)
Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432

This is new. I'll try what you suggested now.

In the data folder there is a file postmaster.opts but no postmaster.pid. Should I still delete it and follow those directions? I haven't backed up the database since I started my new one about 150K hands ago.

Ok. I did what you said and everything is working as it should. Thanks. Under Admin tools/settings/postgresql it was not running for some reason. I started it up and its all good. Thanks.
