Yes, that's the sort of thing you need to do. You shouldn't need to cast it though, because it is already a string, which is what the problem would be with your first try.

I couldn't really guess, sorry. It may have found some logged queries of cached data, but even then that doesn't really look right. It's very different from the real custom stat format.
