PT3 install with PT2

Postby rabbitlover » Wed May 25, 2011 3:32 pm

Can I install PT3 to try it out and keep my PT2 with postgresSQL 8.2 intact? i.e., can the postgres for PT3 be loaded into a separate folder so I can import some hands and try it out w/o screwing with PT2 and it's databases?

PT3 and PT2 can coexist side by side without any problems. They can use the same or different PostgreSQL installations whichever you choose - even if you use PT3 with PostgreSQL 8.2 it won't affect your PT2 database though.

So I can use PT3 with the postgreSQL 8.2 and NOT install the postgre that comes with PT3? Is there an option during the install for that?
Am I giving up any PT3 functions with the older version of postgreSQL or will everything that PT3 offers work? Do the latest versions of postgreSQL offer added features for PT3 or is there really no reason to update postgreSQL?

Thanks

PostgreSQL 8.3 is faster than 8.2. That's pretty much it. The difference is nontrivial (15% or so if I recall correctly), but that's all it is for our purposes. PokerTracker 3 only prompts you to install PostgreSQL if it isn't already installed so you should be able to just download it, install it and connect without any trouble.
