Setup PT3

Postby duathlon » Tue May 05, 2009 10:51 am

I downloaded PT3 on a second computer and registered it. I don't think I have PostgreSQL on this computer. I'm walking through setup and I get the configure the server window and then get an "unable to connect to this database message. Please check configuration"

I'm not sure what else to try. Also, should I be entering a password? I didn't enter one.

I just tried again this morning and I got this message:
"Unable to connect to the database. Please check configuration"
I'm using Vista.
Thanks,
Eric

If you want the second computer to connect to the PostgreSQL installation on the first computer, follow the How To: Network PostgreSQL Databases. Otherwise, you will need to install PostgreSQL on the second machine.

If you don't have postgres installed get the PT3 "Full" installer from the Download page and that will set postgres up for you.

Alternatively, this post: How to reinstall Postgres has a walkthrough if you need to do it manually.

I've downloaded the full version and I'm still having the same problem:
"Unable to connect to the database. Please check configuration"
I don't know how to fix this

Thanks

If you've got some partial/failed installation of postgres you will need to follow the guide I linked above to re-install it.

I'm going through the steps to uninstall and ran into a problem.

At c:\Users\Eric> I typed in 'net user postgres /delete' and go this error message
'The user name could not be found.

I have turned off UAC.

The box for 'Use User Account (UAC)... is not checked.

I'm not sure what I've done wrong.
Thanks,
Eric

If you did that before, or if you never had postgres properly installed, then you may not have that 'postgres' user so you wouldn't be able to remove it.
If you carry on with the rest of the instructions does it work?

If you're really stuck you can schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue.
