I am running Windows XP. I clicked on "Start menu", then run and wrote "service.msc". Then I have chosen the "Postgre.SQL database" from the menu, clicked, choose "automaticaly" and than clicked "Run". When the proces finished, the system wrote: "PostgreSQL Database server 8.3 in Local Computer was ran and then finished. Some services are finished automatically if they dont produce any activity." And nothing changed - the problem is still unsolved. :(

That tends to mean there is a firewall or antivirus issue - please see our firewall configuration guide, available here which will walk you through setup for most common types of software.

Mine says : Windows could not start the postgresql-x64-9.0- PostgresSQ Server 9.0 service on Local Computer

Error 1069: The service did not start due to logon failure.

My startup type is automatic. I have Avast anti virus, I am not running a firewall while trying to start the program

Click Start and type 'services' and open the Services window - look for Secondary Logon and right click it and click Properties. Make sure it's started and its startup type is set to Automatic, then try again.

Yes. Make sure you delete the postgres user and let the installer recreate it and that will likely fix things. Our 8.3 uninstall/reinstall guide is here.
