Can't Start Postgress

Postby RiverOfJustice » Wed Apr 24, 2013 3:44 pm

I'm getting this error when starting PT4:
"Unable to login to database (template1). Reason: server closed the connection unexpectedly
This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request."

And in the pg_log, I see this:
2013-04-24 15:09:20 EDT LOG: incomplete startup packet
2013-04-24 15:09:21 EDT LOG: could not receive data from client: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.

Two things I know for sure- I have no firewall, and my password is correct. Postgres is not started in the services list, and I can't get it to start. What's going on here? FYI, it's postgres 9.0

Windows 8. It worked a few months ago without issue, but now it seems to be having a problem.

Please try running the Fix It option on this page and let me know if that helps.

Open up the Start screen type cmd and right click on it and click Run as Adminstrator.

At the command prompt run these two commands, reboot your machine and let me know if that works better for you:
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

Please let us know that via your ticket. It will be easier if you keep all of your data there so that it's in one place.
