Database: CPU or IO bound ?

Postby Parket » Mon Jan 27, 2014 6:16 am

I am going to recuperate a laptop with broken screen and use it as my home server (24/7). Now I was wondering whether I should now run the database on my desktop PC or on this server, given that the laptop has a CPU that rates almost twice as fast, but which has a 5400rpm harddisk as opposed to my desktop that has an SSD.
EDIT: I don't mass-multitable, so my speed considerations are primarily for querying (HUD, reports, etc...).

If speed concerns are mostly for querying, IO is going to be more important.
