Sorry, bear in mind it's a holiday in the US and not everyone is around.
Did you try disabling avira? That's one of the known culprits IIRC.

Uninstall PostgreSQL from your Control Panel (your data will remain in tact).

Then download and manually install PostgreSQL 8.3.3. During the re-installation process, when you get to the step to initialize your database cluster, uncheck the 'Initialize Cluster' box so that you skip this step. It is not needed since your database cluster from the previous installation is still good. Proceed through the remainder of the installation using default settings.

I suspect that will resolve the issue. My guess is that some security software (Avira?) may have deleted an import PostgreSQL file and reinstalling will resolve the issue.

ok, i did what you said.

now i have the postgresql service running again and i can start it manually, too.

but i still loose connection to the database when doing housekeeping. no matter if i only do the cache thing or just vacuum or whatever. after about 35-40 min (always) the connection is lost.

i dont have any other problems with my system and i am using pt3 and avira since months.

i will do one more thing today: reboot my system, unable avira and firewall and try to do the housekeeping. just to be absolutely sure.

Is this still happening in Beta 17? B17 contains code so that PT3 automatically reconnects to PostgreSQL if the connection drops. If the service is no longer running PT3 will automatically try starting it then connecting so this hopefully is no longer an issue for you.

Hi

i've got this exact same problem only its with Postgres 8.4.
I have followed all the instructions from this thread:- viewtopic.php?f=45&t=4098
I found the .dib file and deleted it and disabled Avira etc, to no avail

Now i suspect i need to uninstall Postgres then Reinstall but i just want check with you guys that my Data should be ok if i do this. Could you please advise me which site to download latest Postgres from.

Thanks

Edit: P.s Will i be able to set this up straight to my D drive as opposed to C drive which is getting a bit full?

If you uninstall and reinstall your data should be fine, but if you reinstall somewhere other than C your data will not move.

The easiest solution for you is going to be to create a support ticket using this link so that we can assist you remotely and help you get everything set up and working properly.
