retsoring a pt2 backup

Postby Random1002 » Tue Dec 28, 2010 7:02 pm

Apologies if this has been detailed elsewhere, I have searched, but after hard disc issues I have a situation, and any pointers on the way forward would be appreciated...

I am on XP SP3 - and have had to do a system re-install - this has blown away Postgres 8.2 and PT2 (which still works fine on Stars ;) )
Thought it was time for an upgrade so have installed Pgres 8.4, no PT yet but an upgrade to 3 is quite do-able

I have a PT2 backup file from a couple of days ago that I now want to re-load. What is the best way to go about this ?

Possiblities :-
Is it possble to download an old PT2 and do a the reload ?
Will Pgress 8.4 import an 8.2 PT2 backup file ?
Will PT3 import a PT2 backup ?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated - many thanks - Pete

Your 8.2 backup should restore in 8.4, but PT2 will not work with 8.4.
It is possible to use PT2 with PostgreSQL 8.3, though.

If you restore your PT2 database backup, you should be able to convert that into PT3 (with any PostgreSQL version, although 8.3 or 8.4 is currently recommended), as long as you were storing the hand history files in the database.
Alternatively you could re-import to PT3 from the original hand history files if you still have them - that's effectively the same as converting a database (unless you have tournament summaries entered).

Thanks Mr Rider, I think I'll go the PT3 route and reload from HHistories - it will probably take longer but saves the problem of switching versions. Many thanks for your help - Pete

If you have them, that would be my preferred route.
