Tutorial: Preferred Seating

Postby WhiteRider » Sun Mar 22, 2009 9:04 am

Some poker sites allow you to specify which seat you want to sit in, and always rotate the players so that you are shown in the same position.

If you use this option you need to configure PokerTracker 3 to know about your preferred seat for each site and table size.
You do this on the Auto Import tab.

First, select your poker site from the Site List.

Then on the right, click the {Site} Configuration tab.
The configuration tabs for each site with preferred seat settings are shown later in this post.

On this tab you need to select your table size and configure your preferred seat.
If you play at different table sizes you need to do this for each table size.

The seat numbers for most sites start with 1 to the right of top centre (dealer position) - the 1 o'clock position - and work clockwise.

Note: When you have enabled the preferred seating option, the stats at your table will not move to the correct positions until you have played and imported at least one full hand.
Until this point PT3 does not know you are at the table so does not know to use the preferred seat settings.
Therefore if you join a table and the view rotates to put you in your preferred seat you should not move the HUD stats to different positions to match where the players have been moved to.

Troubleshooting
If you have enabled preferred seating options and imported a played hand but the stats still don't move to the correct positions, the main reasons are these:

1. PT3 may not have recognized the size of the table correctly.
You can identify this problem by looking at your Texas Holdem -> Sessions tab (click 'Refresh') and seeing whether the session is correctly listed as "6-max" (or whatever).
If you play at short-handed tables this information is not included in the hand history files for all sites, so you should enable the 'Adjust Qualifying Tables Limits' option on the Auto Import tab. This will tell PT3 to try to work out what size table you are playing at based on the number of players involved, etc., and will therefore be able to use the layout for the correct table size.

2. If the stats still don't line up correctly, then you should disable preferred seating in both your poker client and PT3 and then play a session on a single table (or observe a table if your site supports observed hands) and position the stats to the correct places for all seats in their 'natural' positions.
When you have them where you want them, click PT-icon -> Save Layout and then open a new table to check that everything is in the correct places. (Note that this will not affect any other tables you currently have open, so try it with a new table.)
Once you have this working, re-enable preferred seating in both your poker site and PT3 and then everything should line up correctly once you start playing at new tables.

Note: The "Sit Me Here" option which some sites have, to allow you to choose a separate seat at each table, is NOT supported in PT3 as it is not possible to find out where you are at each individual table.

Site Configuration

888 (Pacific)
..allows you to choose your preferred seat at each table size and PT3 has matching options.

888 start their seat numbering with seat 1 at the top-centre of the table (or slightly to the right, depending on layout) and numbers increase clockwise.

NOTE: Because 888 write hand histories while you are seated and waiting for the blinds (i.e. not dealt in) the HUD will appear, but it will not adjust to your preferred seat until you have played one hand and that has been imported. If you reposition the stats during this time they will be incorrect for other tables - you should position the stats either with preferred seating turned off, or after you have played at least one hand at the table.

The "Auto Centre" option remains in case not all 888 skins have updated to the full Preferred Seating option, but should not be used unless that is what your skin uses.

Bodog
..always shows you in the bottom centre seat and PT3 rotates stats automatically.

Boss Media
Normal tables do not have preferred seating and Miniview tables always shows you in the bottom centre seat and PT3 rotates stats automatically so there is no option in PT3.

Cereus Network
..allows you to choose your preferred seat at each table size and PT3 has matching options.
You can configure preferred seats individually for Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet so please make sure that you select the correct site.

Merge start their seat numbering with seat 0 (zero) at the far left (9 o'clock) position, and numbers increase clockwise.

NOTE: Because Merge write hand histories while you are seated and waiting for the blinds (i.e. not dealt in) the HUD will appear, but it will not adjust to your preferred seat until you have played one hand and that has been imported. If you reposition the stats during this time they will be incorrect for other tables - you should position the stats either with preferred seating turned off, or after you have played at least one hand at the table.

OnGame
..does not have a full preferred seating option, but you can choose your seat at each individual table once seated. This information is not written to the hand history files, so PT3 has no way of knowing where you have moved to automatically, but if you always choose the same seat and you can configure PT3 to display stats as if you are seated there.
For this to work you must always choose the same seat position, otherwise your stats will be misaligned. e.g. If you want to sit at the bottom centre you will need to choose the bottom centre seat at every table you join, and configure the preferred seat in PT3 to seat 8.
To choose your seat at an OnGame table click "Change Seat" in the options panel at the lower right of the table.
OnGame's seat numbers start with one just above the 9 o'clock position, on the left-hand side of the table, and increase clockwise.

From May 2011 OnGame always display you in the bottom centre seat at tournament tables and PT3 has an option to tell the HUD to compensate for this, called "Tournament Auto Center".
If you play tournaments and do not move seats manually then you should enable this option. If you prefer to choose your own seat then you should set the normal "Preferred Seating" option, and always move yourself to the same seat.
