How to: Safe Mode removal of Software

Postby prajna » Wed May 14, 2008 11:48 pm

NOTE: YOU SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS UNLESS YOU ARE BEING TOLD BY SUPPORT TO DO SO!!!! FIDDLING WITH THIS CAN CAUSE YOU TO LOSE YOUR DATA INCLUDING ALL YOUR HAND HISTORIES IF NOT DONE CORRECTLY!

Many times a user has to go into safe mode and remove the software we have. Here are the steps to do this. The hardest part is going into safe mode itself. You restart windows, and before it starts up again, you press and hold down the F8 key which then brings up a menu where you select the safe mode operation. I have uploaded a video of me doing this to youtube to try to assist in this. Please note, for proper operation, you HAVE to log into an administrator account to remove the software properly after this.

Once on the destop in safe mode, go to start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> add/remove programs and select the program you are being told to remove in this mode (this could be Pokertracker 3, Pokertracker 2, postgresql, or Poker Ace Hud depending on what the issue is). Once removed, close the add/remove window and go back to start -> Run... and type in \Program Files

Select the folder matching the name(s) of the program(s) you are being told to remove in safe mode. Right click -> delete. Now, reinstall the software WHILE STILL IN SAFE MODE. Once done, reboot into normal mode.
