Tutorial: How to Create a PokerTracker 3 Log File

Postby APerfect10 » Mon May 26, 2008 8:15 pm

Occassionally, PokerTracker support will request a log file when troubleshooting an issue. This tutorial was designed to be a reference for these situations.

  1. In PokerTracker 3, go Configure->Options->Logging Enabled. When logging is enabled, this option will be checked. (See attached screenshot as a reference)
  2. Restart PokerTracker 3 for logging to take effect.
  3. Replicate the problem or do what support has advised.
    • Note: Do NOT restart PokerTracker 3 during this time as it will overwrite the log file
  4. Open "My Computer"
  5. Browse to your main PokerTracker 3 directory and select the 'PokerTracker.log' and 'PokerTrackerHUD.log' files.
    • Note: For English computers this typically is C:\Program Files\PokerTracker 3\. It is not located in the \logs folder.
    • Note: If you do not have extensions enabled in Windows, the log files may only appear as 'PokerTracker (text document)' and 'PokerTrackerHUD (Text Document)'.
  6. Right click -> Send to Compressed Folder. This will create a new .zip file in the same folder, containing both log files.
  7. If any other files have been requested too you can drag them onto the zip file to include them too.
  8. Send the zip file via the PokerTracker Support system.

If you can't run PT3 to enable logging, you will need to configure it manually.
    1. Edit the file
      C:\Program Files\PokerTracker 3\Data\Config\PokerTracker.cfg
    2. Make sure it includes
      [General]
      Logging=Y
    3. Save your changes.

Best regards,

Derek

How to attach a log file to a support ticket

Postby prajna » Sat Dec 27, 2008 4:50 pm

Either 1) you are creating a new ticket or 2) you are replying to a ticket where support has asked for your log files.

1) If creating a brand new ticket, go here: PT3 Support Ticket System.

2) If replying to a ticket, please click on the link at the top of the email you receive for the support ticket to go to the website and view the ticket directly.

Now, having done #1 or #2 above, click on the browse button you see on the web page and navigate the file browser to computer -> c: -> Program Files -> Pokertracker 3. Look for pokertracker.log or a text file named pokertracker. Hover the mouse over it and you will be told how big it is. Though you can attach a file up to the size of 5 megs to a ticket and it will be accepted, we recommend compressing anything over 2megs because of the time saved uploading it to the ticket. To compress it, right click on the file -> send to -> compressed folder. Now select the newly created compressed folder you will see and click on open. Now click the attach button.

Do this again for other files requested. Once all are attached, add a message and any references then click on submit.
