hardware setup for best performance

Postby rowhousepd » Wed Apr 28, 2021 12:13 am

Hardware question: I'm about to build a PC for the first time in ages, and I'm not sure what the best practices are for PT4 to run optimally.

It's gonna be a core i9 10th gen with 32G of ram and two drives; both drives pretty similar M.2 PCIe SSDs with plenty of room on each. My question is whether I should install both PT4 and PostgreSQL on the drive with the OS, or is there a reason to maybe put them on the non-OS drive ... or, I dunno, maybe PT4 should go on one and PostgreSQL on the other? (I also have a SATA III drive mostly for storage, but I'm going to assume there's no reason to get that involved.)

I'm guessing everything on OS drive is best, but figured I'd ask. Thanks!

I'd recommend installing both PokerTracker 4 and PostgreSQL to your OS drive but when installing PostgreSQL you will be offered the option to store the data on another drive. You may find that useful depending on your storage requirements and if you want to format/reinstall your OS in future the PostgreSQL data will be on it's own drive.
