Where was Browser settings, cache, & cookies stored before?

Postby pt4pt4pt4 » Mon Jul 23, 2012 10:24 pm

•Community: Browser settings, cache, and cookies are now in the PT4 users folder under Community Cache

Wondering how PT4 interfaced with iexplorer and where PT4 stored previous cookies.

Were cookies created regardless if you accessed the community page, or just started PT4?

I noticed in the logs that PT4 included every internet web page that was open when PT4 was running.

We do not interface with iexplorer at all. Our browser is embedded within PT4. Previously your settings were stored in your temporary folder, specifically wherever the %TEMP% environment variable pointed to.

The change was mostly a support change so that we could provide clear, easy instructions on how to delete it.

Does that mean that PT4 had logged all the websites / pages that we were at / visited while PT4 was running (even tho we have internet explorer already loaded), and uploaded to a PT4 server for market research?

We do not interface with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or any other web browser. PokerTracker does not log any of your web browser activity.

Furthermore we never upload anything without your explicit permission and we ask before every single upload. Currently the only things we upload are crash reports and YouTube videos.

I thought that sales dept might be intrested in what web sites poker players visit in order to target the release of PT4.

All products use tracking cookies so I thought that PT4 might be too.

Embedding your own browser? A development advantage for future PT4 features that iexplorer won't provide?

I found this part of your product surprising since everyone has some kind of web software already.

That seems borderline unethical, at least to me. We don't do things like that.

It's how Facebook made their billions by selling users data to advertisers
