Old mac crashed and couldn’t restore DB?

Postby eisen009 » Mon Sep 05, 2016 4:49 pm

My old macbook pro crashed and was unrecoverable although I have multiple backup copies of the hard drive from various dates. When I got my new macbook pro, it restores from the last backup automatically but I was not able to get the PT4 database to restore. Uncertain if I should uninstall/reinstall the Postgres database, I started a new database so I could continue playing, intending to resolve the issue. So I now have 2 months of data in this new database and am still uncertain how to restore. Oddly, when I look at my PT4 processed hand file, all of the hands going back to 2014 are there but I can’t seem to access them when I’m actually in PokerTracker….only the hands in the new database from the last 3 months. Any help appreciated…I would love to be able to just import those processed hand files dating back through 2014 if that is possible. Many thanks!

What you will need to do is reimport those hands into your new database. To manually import hand histories from your hard disk select "Get Hands From Disk" after clicking "Play Poker". Choose "Select Directory" to import all of the hands found in a folder, or "Select Files" to only import specific hand history files that you choose.

Depending on the number of hands you have this import may take some time. You therefore would want to schedule this to start at the most convenient time. In other words I would not start this import if you have important poker sessions coming up as you cannot import manually and use PokerTracker 4 on live tables at the same time. If required you can break the import up into smaller chunks/folders.

Thanks....I did uninstall all postgres databases and installed Postgres 9.3, reinstalled PT4 as well and now I'm back to getting this error when I try to open PT4:
Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration.
Settings for configuring the PostgreSQL Server are: Server: localhost, Database User: postgres, Port: 5432, Password: dbpass

I believe that this error was the reason that I upgraded to Postgres 9.5 in the first place (now uninstalled).

Please help!

One thing that may help: I read the instructions on uninstalling postgres but when I typed in the command line, nothing was found in the library file. I deleted my old postgres 9.5.3 using uninstall and deleted all the files I could find but here is what I got when I ran the script another user was asked to do when troubleshooting a similar problem:
LaraEisergsMBP2:~ laraeisenberg$ ps ax | grep -i postgres
112 ?? Ss 0:02.25 /Library/PostgreSQL/9.5/bin/postmaster -D/Library/PostgreSQL/9.5/data
214 ?? Ss 0:00.04 postgres: logger process
217 ?? Ss 0:02.80 postgres: checkpointer process
218 ?? Ss 0:01.42 postgres: writer process
219 ?? Ss 0:03.85 postgres: wal writer process
220 ?? Ss 0:02.23 postgres: autovacuum launcher process
221 ?? Ss 0:09.35 postgres: stats collector process
35672 ?? Ss 0:00.04 /Library/PostgreSQL/9.3/bin/postmaster -D/Library/PostgreSQL/9.3/data
35673 ?? Ss 0:00.00 postgres: logger process
35675 ?? Ss 0:00.00 postgres: checkpointer process
35676 ?? Ss 0:00.04 postgres: writer process
35677 ?? Ss 0:00.01 postgres: wal writer process
35678 ?? Ss 0:00.01 postgres: autovacuum launcher process
35679 ?? Ss 0:00.04 postgres: stats collector process
36244 s000 S+ 0:00.00 grep -i postgres

I'm not a programmer but it looks like 9.5 is still running somehow which might be at least part of the problem. Not sure where to go from here though. Thanks!

Please make sure all elements of PostgreSQL v9.5 have been removed before installing PostgreSQL v9.3. To do that you can follow this tutorial. Since it isn't clear what may or may not be there any longer some of these steps may produce something like "not found" - it's likely that will be OK but don't skip any of the steps. Next you can manually download and install PostgreSQL 9.3.15 from here. Using a Mac administrator account or administrative privileges install that PostgreSQL and for the password boxes use "dbpass" (no quotes) which is what PokerTracker 4 uses by default. Once PostgreSQL installs successfully reboot your computer and then try PokerTracker 4 again.
