Custom stats in the mew version

I haven't installed the new version yet, but I saw in the release notes that some characters are not allowed. It says in column and variable names. Does this mean that those special characters are ok in the stats? If not, what happens to the existing stats that may have ":" or "$" in them? Should I go through my stats and rename them before I update? I don't have any columns or variables with those characters.

Stats with those characters are fine and that's not going to change. The columns get converted to SQL and are also used in stat expressions so there were some characters, like +-/*, that would cause issues. Also, we don't modify any of your existing columns or imported columns at all. This verification is only done for new columns.
