Data Window Error

Postby lfairban » Sun Apr 20, 2008 11:55 pm

I get a bunch of errors when I try to do a session detail graph:

DataWindowError Item'[comment]'does not pass validation test. [OK button] Where comment=comment on the hand

Then it pops another window that says:

Item validation error on IMPORT. Continue IMPORT? [YES and NO button]

If you answer YES it repeats for other hand comments. If you answer NO, it goes to the graph, but does not include points for the sessions that had comments. Sometimes it objects to "PS" or "PL ($.05) (6 max)".

It just started doing this today, I tried the repair function, but that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

You are the first to report such a problem. I'll have to see if I can recreate this.

I am not sure you will be able to replicate the error. I think I messed up some of the data base.

I tried to delete the errant strings to no avail.

I tried to get the same thing to happen by putting similar strings on other records and did not get the expected results.

I am going to try to isolate which session are at issue and purge/re-import them.

The problem did NOT follow a software update, and I wasn't doing anything I had not previously done. I believe it had something to do with the way I pasted some session comments possibly.

One question that might help me find an answer, are the notes for the session and game kept in the ptracko.MDB file or are they in a separate file? I can't see another file in the directory that has been updated recently enought.

The game and session comments are stored in a separate tables in ptracko.mdb.

If you are able to recreate this with a certain session, please email me the hands from that session and any comments you added so I can see what it's doing on my end.

I got the problem to replicate!

To make a long story short, the problem seems to be in the Notes section of the Session Notes.

If there are two lines separated by a CR, then the problem will become evident. This is probably why no one has noticed it yet. If you type a note, no matter how long even if it wraps several lines there will be no problem. If you type a line, hit Enter (Return) then type another line, there will be a problem.

Could you try to replicate?

Thanks for your attention,
Sincerely,
Larry

I was able to recreate it. Strange. I'll have to fix this for the next patch.

Other important details:

Errors start with oldest sessions.

If the database has not been packed, the session will not show up on the graph but there will be no error messages. Error messages will only be generated after the database has been packed.
