October 25, 2013
  • Overview

This Basic HUD User Guide covers basic HUD configuration and is intended for first time users of the HUD feature in PokerTracker 4. For information on advanced HUD configuration, see the Advanced HUD User Guide.

This guide assumes that you already know how to import hand histories into your database. For information on importing hand histories, refer to your Site Configuration Guide.

  • About the HUD

The Heads Up Display (HUD) is a powerful statistics display solution that is overlaid onto your table. Statistics will appear in boxes beside screen names that indicate such information as total hands played, total aggression factor, win percentage, or any other stat which you chose to add to the HUD. All these stats are fully customizable and can be configured for both cash games and tournaments.

    • Features

The HUD offers the following features:

      • Provides detailed stats about your play in the session, as well as your opponents' play
      • Lets you see hands that were not displayed in the poker software, if this information is provided to you in the hand history. This feature is called Mucked Cards, and is only available if the poker site provides the mucked cards to PokerTracker in the hand history.
      • Lets you see winning hands at showdown, as well as street by street equities in the hand vs each opponents' known holdings
      • Lets you see how much you or your opponents won or loss in a hand
    • Compatible Sites

Please visit the PokerTracker 4 - Site Configuration page for the complete list of compatible sites and ways to configure them for proper HUD usage.

  • How to Enable the HUD

Enabling your HUD is simple. All you have to do is make sure that PokerTracker 4 is open and that it is automatically importing hand histories as you are playing. From there, PokerTracker 4 will place the HUD on your table. It's that easy!

To configure HUD for your poker room, do the following:

    1. Launch PokerTracker and make sure that it is automatically importing hand histories. For information on configuring automatic import of hand histories, see your Site's Configuration Guide.
    2. Play a couple of hands at a poker client compatible with PokerTracker 4.
    3. After a few hands, the HUD will show up on your table(s), you can confirm this due to the appearance of the PokerTracker Icon and Tagging menus placed on each table as they are discovered.

    4. You can now position the HUD table components as you like on your table by dragging them. See Positioning HUD Elements below.
  • Using the HUD

The HUD is a customizable and scalable solution that you can configure to suit your needs. The statistics displayed in the HUD are defined by creating a HUD Profile, or by using one of the pre-defined HUD Profiles that ship with PokerTracker 4.  Pre-defined HUD Profiles are pre-populated with default statistics that are industry standards in use by players around the world. It's important that you understand the functionality of these statistics to maximize your use of the HUD.

    • Understanding Common Statistics Found in a HUD Profile

There are common statistics found in most on-table HUD groups. The example below uses the PokerTracker 4 default HUD Profile for cash games, but you will find that the stats used below are commonly similar or derivitive from those found in other HUD Profiles.  Hover over the selected stat to look at both the entire filtered database as well as the table session specific data for a specific stat.  A stat displays the probability of an action occurring by measuring the frequency of past actions.

      Default Cash Game HUD

      • Notes (Note Icon): Allows you to take and see notes on this player.
      • VPIP (VP): Measures how often a player voluntarily puts money in the pot preflop, expressed as a percentage.
      • PFR (PR): Measures the frequency that a player raises preflop, expressed as a percentage.
      • 3Bet (3B): How often a player 3bets preflop given the opportunity, expressed as a percentage.
      • Flop CB (CB): How often a player continuation bets the flop given the opportunity, expressed as a percentage.
      • Name (Player Name Short): The first 5 letters/numbers/symbols in the player's name.
      • Stack Size: The size of a player's stack in big blinds, calculated at the end of the prior hand.
      • Fold vs Flop CB: The frequency that a player folds versus a flop continuation bet given the opportunity, expressed as a percentage.
      • Hands: The number of hands you have in your database for this player.

You can left click on the statistics box to show a "popup" that has more detailed statistics as shown below.

      Pop Up Pt4

The statistics displayed within the HUD Profile's On Table and Popup groups can be customized to display whatever stats you chose. For additional information on customizing your HUD, please read the Advanced HUD User Guide.

    • Post Hand Information

When a hand gets to showdown, you may be able to view how much player won or lost in the native Game Currency if that player's cards are stored in the hand history at showdown where applicable.

      Mucked Cards PT4

In the above example you see the player lost $100 in the pot, showed down with Qs6s, and the equity the player had on each street against the other known hands.  When a hand goes to showdown PokerTracker will also display the board cards momentarily displayed in the center of the table.  You may configure the length of time that Mucked Cards are displayed, along with the opacity of the Mucked Cards display by selecting HUD > Edit HUD Options > General Settings.

    • Reviewing Recent Hands

If you wish to review the result or mucked cards from the previous hand while you are playing, you can see the results of the prior hand again by clicking the tag-icon and choosing Display Last Hand. The Display Last Hand functionality is not available while playing Fast Poker tables such as PokerStars Zoom because the last hand may still be taking place while you are already moved to a new table.

      Recent Hands PT4

If you see a hand which you would like to review after your session you can mark a recent hand for review by clicking the tag-icon, selecting a hand and then choosing the appropriate tag (or multiple tags). This lists the last 5 hands at the table with the winner's hole cards show and the winner of the hand. When you tag a hand for review this alows you to find the hand quickly in PokerTracker reports by filtering for the specific tag, or by selecting Marked Hands Only above the report.

    • Positioning HUD Elements

HUD statistics can be positioned anywhere on your table. By default the HUD components placed on the table are locked in position to avoid accidentally moving the HUD while playing, you can move the HUD component boxes to new locations on the table:

Windows:  Hold the Control key while dragging the HUD components to the new location.

Mac OS X:  Hold the Command key while dragging the HUD components to the new location.

You can alternatively click the PT-icon and Unlock the HUD to move HUD groups around on the table without the need to hold the control or command keys.  This also applies to moving the PT/tag icon - hold the modifier key for your operating system key to drag it; and also applies when moving mucked cards and board cards.  To see the position of all mucked cards, use the PT-icon to enable "Configure Mucked Cards".

      Save Layout

When you have your HUD Table Groups placed where you want them on the table, you may now save their positions by clicking the PT-icon and choosing "Save Layout". The saved layout will then be applied to all open tables that match the conditions defined while using HUD Profile Select as well as any new tables that are opened.

  • Additional Information on the HUD
