Vista Users Experiencing Trouble with PostgreSQL

Postby APerfect10 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 10:46 am

Recently we have received a lot of complaints from Microsoft Vista users having issues with PostgreSQL.

What are the symptoms of PostgreSQL issues?
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms then this message affects you:

  1. You get the message "A version of PokerTracker is already running" yet PT3 does not appear to be running.
  2. PokerTracker 3 simply will not start when you double-click to run the program
  3. You experience red text error messages in various PT3 windows
  4. You must constantly restart the PostgreSQL service via Start->Programs->PostgreSQL 8.3->Start Service
Why is this occurring?
On the second Tuesday of December (or shortly thereafter), Microsoft released an update to their Microsoft Vista operating system. PT3 users who did not properly install PT3 and PostgreSQL with administrative privileges, by disabling "User Account Control", are now suffering the above problems.

How do I resolve the issue?
First, disable "User Account Control" by following the instructions in the Tutorial: Vista-How to Disable 'User Account Control' (UAC)

After restarting your computer, you will then need to completely uninstall and then manually reinstall PostgreSQL. We have put together a very nice, step-by-step tutorial with a lot of pictures, to make this easier for you. (Your PT3 stats/database(s) will be preserved)

Note: Simply disabling "UAC" will not resolve the issue. You must install PostgreSQL and PT3 with UAC disabled.

Guide: How To Uninstall/Reinstall PostgreSQL 8.3

After reinstalling PostgreSQL, please download the latest version of PokerTracker 3 WITHOUT PostgreSQL and install it over-top of your existing PT3 installation.

PokerTracker 3 - Download

PokerTracker 3 and PostgreSQL should now be installed properly with administrative privileges and you should no longer have any PostgreSQL issues in the present or future.

If after doing all of the above and you are still experiencing the above symptoms, please contact us via the PokerTracker Support System and we will work with you to resolve the problem.

Best regards,
