compacting

so i go to compact my database today and now all my data is gone? are they gone for good or is there anyway to retreive them? please tell me we can fix this...

With PT closed, go to the c:\program files\poker tracker v2 folder. Click on the Compatibility Files button at the top of the Explorer window. Are there any files there with MDB as the file extension? If so, what are the date/times/sizes of those files.

ive got 3 .mbd files...hhcopy (8/18 3:42pm 15732 kb), ptrack (8/18 4:58pm 804 kb), ptrack_backup (8/18 3:42pm 26288 kb)

Are you sure you are running PT2 as administrator? Does Vista prompt you each time you run PT2 to cancel/allow it to run?

In the normal, c:\program files\poker tracker v2 folder, is there a file called ptrack.mdb and hhdb.mdb? If so, rename those files to ptrack_x.mdb and hhdb_x.mdb - then, copy the hhcopy.mdb and ptrack_backup.mdb from the comp. files folder to the c:\program files\poker tracker v2 folder. Rename hhcopy.mdb to hhdb.mdb and ptrack_backup.mdb to ptrack.mdb and then open PT2 making sure to run as administrator.

yea i just realized that it wasnt running in admin mode. i did what you said and now it cant find the database...it brings up a login for admin. it cant find hhdb.mdb, should i change the filename of hhdb_copy.mdb to hhdb.mdb?

now pat, will this happen again if i compact again or now that i am running admin mode, will everything be ok?

It should be OK as long as you are running as administrator. Also, I'm guessing you did the "One step compact" option? Try using the separate Utilities > Compact A Poker Database and Utilities > Compact Hand History Database instead of the one-step option.
