my c net adjusted

Postby Yahtr » Sun Sep 08, 2013 4:04 am

i usually play 9 handed turbo SNGs and I came to realize over a decent sample size that my c net adjusted keeps going south... can i have a detailed explanation of how my c net adjusted gets calculated?

We adjust the winnings based on the expected result in all-in situations using ICM values. So for example if your expected results from a hand increased your winnings according to ICM by $10 and your actual chips at the end of the hand were worth $15 that would be an adjusted result of +$5. If your ICM expectation was $10 and your actual result was worth 0, that would be an adjusted result of -$10. For each all-in hand that affects your ICM (which can include all-ins that you're not even a part of!), we adjust the results for you. To get a better idea how ICM works and affects you in specific situations, I'd recommend taking a look at our ICM quiz. It's easy and fun and helps you get used to the way ICM affects you in bubble spots (which are going to be the swingiest in 9 man SNGs.

For example, let's assume I had a starting stack of 1,500 chips. Then I have an all-in confrontation AA vs 33 which rivers a set of 3s and I am left with only 20 chips in BB, which forces me to to go all in with 59 and I loose. Please note here that it was not my decision to go all-in with 95 because I was forced to make this all-in due to my position at big blind. Will 'My C Net Adjusted' line go up or down?

Your picture is incomplete so let's fill in a few holes:

(1) You're playing a 10 handed SnG paying 50-30-20.
(2) The prize pool is $100 (so it was a $10 buy-in)
(3) Your hand was 95o in the second hand.
(3) Your opponent had K8o in the second hand.

In the first hand you started with 10% of the prize pool so your chips were worth $10.

Your equity in the first hand was 81.77% so 81.77% of the time you eliminate a player, leaving you with 2980 chips and $18.34 worth of the prize pool, and 18.33% of the time you lose leaving you with $0 worth of the prize pool. .8177 * 18.34 is roughly $15. So your expected result as a result of this hand was to have $15 worth of prize pool (the zero portion cancels). So your expectation here was +$5. Of course we actually lost leaving us with chips worth $.15

In your second hand you had 20 chips worth $.15. You had 37.75% equity. .3775 * .15 is roughly $.06. So your expectation here was a loss of 9 cents.

Your net adjusted for the tournament is thus +5 - .09 or $4.91. So your net adjusted line will go up by that amount for this tournament, while the actual winnings would drop $10 (plus rake).

kraada,

Thank you for taking the time to give a detailed answer, in fact this is what I am really looking for to truly understand how 'my c net adjusted' is being calculated.

As I was reading through your answer, I still came upon few spots where I'd need further elaboration though. To be more realistic, let's assume:

1). I am playing a 9 handed turbo SNG with a starting stack of 1,500 chips and 50-30-20 payout structure.

2). Buy-in is $3.50 which includes a rake of $0.30. QUESTION: Am I correct to assume this would result in total prize pool of $3.20 x 9 = $28.8?

3). In the very first hand of the tourney with blinds at 20/10 I go ALL-IN from CO, first-in, with AA and loose to the guy seated at big blind who calls my shove with 33. Now I will try to calculate my 'c net adjusted' as per your instructions.

Every time I would have won in that particular situation, I would have won 0.8177 x ($3.20 + $3.20)=$5.23 and that minus the buy-in without rake $5.23-$3.20=+$2(zeros cancel)?

What is overall 'my c net adjusted' in that game?

(2) That's correct.

(3) Doubling your stack doesn't double your tournament equity directly - because some of that equity is distributed to other players. Please see our ICM calculator in Tools -> ICM and that will let you calculate specific situations more accurately. Your ending chip value in about 4.80 so your net adjusted for this tournament would be +1.3.

I still don't understand when 'My C Net Adjusted' line goes up and when down. Does your previous arguments mean that with AA I will always have a c net adjusted line going up?

If you don't get all-in, then the line goes exactly as it would based on how much you won or lost. If you folded AA at some point, your line would go down. If you always get all-in with it, then it would go up nearly always.

This is a great question for the ICM calculator; the details of the math depend exactly on the details of the situation.

But my initial reaction is that sounds like a good fold to me.
